Thank you for joining us here at The Corporate Escapists. Please introduce yourself to our reader. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion.
My name is Jemimah Ashleigh and I love helping amazing entrepreneurs stop playing small and step into the spotlight. I left a six figure salary and listened to my heart – I wanted out!
Oprah once quoted ‘You are where you are in your life, based on what you believe. If you’re not looking at the shadows, what is subconsciously telling yourself you’re not good enough, not worthy enough, not smart enough…you’re not enough, you end up acting out of THAT belief system, and not of what you want to be the truest for yourself.””. How important is it to you to have the belief within ones self?
It is so important to believe in what you are doing. I left my six figure corporate job and everyone doubted me as I build my new career. I had to prove to them, and myself, it was the right move. I believe in myself, worked hard and here we are!
Tell us what the word “Entrepreneur” means to you?
An entrepreneur is someone who can throw themselves off the cliff and knows they will figure out how to build the parachute on the way down. We are the people with faith firmly set in ourselves and know in hell or high water, we will figure it out.
How has the life of being an entrepreneur, changed you?
Being an entrepreneur has made me grow every part of myself. I had to learn fiercely about personal development and how to make myself into the person I needed to become to be who I wanted to be.
I had to learn about the sum of five people and surround myself with people who were going to help me grow. I needed to learn about nutrition and optimising my health. It has made me a stronger, kinder and better person.
Share you thoughts on the importance of business owners to be a leader in their own life and ensure they have a work/life balance?
An old boss once said to me, ‘we work to live, not the other way around.’ And this job is no exception.
While there will always be times when we need to focus on the work, we are doing this job for a reason and that reason needs to be because we want a dream life.
Our dream life can’t just be our jobs.
What is your favourite quote about “following your dreams”?
I usually hate inspiration quotes, but my favourite ‘quote’ is actually a lesson from a book and it’s guaranteed to get me out of bed at 6am!
‘What happens if you live exactly the way you are now, right now and you change nothing?
And then one day you die and you talk to God and he slides a piece of paper across the table and says to you ‘This is who you were supposed to be! This amazing person here. This is what you could have done. What happened?”
And the thought of the person I was supposed to be and all the excuses haunting me for the rest of my life are way more scarier than that alarm clock at 6am.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Where to start?!
