Liz Grant is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, trainer, facilitator and accredited coach, and parent to a teenager. Liz has more than 30 years’ experience working in all areas of business growth and believes in continuous learning. From her base in regional Victoria, she mentors others to start and grow their business and live their purpose. When she’s not working with other entrepreneurs and business owners, she can be found on the lifestyle farm she owns with her husband, tending their milking goats, chooks, edible gardens and Shetland ponies.
I’m Liz, passionate about all things sustainability and supporting people who live in regional Australia. I work with women in rural and regional areas to start a business and grow their business to their first couple of employees, so it fits within their lifestyle, all while living their purpose.
The catalyst for me to start my own business was realising that I wanted to make a more grass roots impact in my community. Armed with my knowledge of business growth, I stepped out of my comfort zone, learned from many mistakes and mentors, and have kept learning since.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that ‘done is better than perfect’. We learn from doing, and sometimes you need to put something out into the market to understand how it should evolve next. Everyone starts somewhere; just take imperfect action, then review and adjust.
Having worked in business growth for many years, I realised that the tools we used in corporates applied to smaller businesses. My business started with a focus on customer research, then incorporated planning, content marketing, and process design, and now I help entrepreneurs start their business and pitch for funding.
My favourite quote is ‘It’s never too late to be what you might have been’ from George Elliot. If you have a passion, just start. It’s never too late and you’re never too old to live a life of purpose.
Firstly, have a clear ‘why’. There will be setbacks, and if you’re not connected to why you’re doing it, it can be hard to stay the course. Secondly, gather your team. This could include a mentor, accountant, and other professionals who have your back and can give you perspective.
