Mia Hewett is a Life and Business Coach with a best-selling book, Meant For More. She has a revolutionary breakthrough way of coaching entrepreneurs and business owners. Mia has created a self-coaching methodology that works consistently and predictably to allow her clients to coach themselves through any obstacle.
Mia was in her thirties, successful, and co-owner of a multi-million dollar company; she had a beautiful home, happy children, and a great life. Yet, secretly, she struggled, constantly second-guessing herself and was filled with self-doubt. Mia tried coaching and therapy to find her purpose, but nothing helped for more than a couple of days. All she knew was that something was missing, like she was Meant for More.
Readers join her in the book on her journey, starting with awareness and understanding and then applying her methodology to live their full potential. Mia has worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, showing them how they can make their businesses’ six and seven-figure leaps in an easier, faster way. Using the Aligned Intelligence Method® that Mia developed, clients learn why they self-sabotage and how to stop.
This is a profound and complete life methodology that shows clients how to unlock the impact and difference they’ve always known they were here to make! As well as running her programs and courses, Mia appears on multiple podcasts and contributes to online publications, including Thrive Global, The Huffington Post, and Forbes.
Mia is sitting down with The Corporate Escapists and sharing with us what the word EMPOWER means to her.
Thank you for joining us here at The Corporate Escapists. Please introduce yourself to our reader. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion.
When I was really young, I left home and started working in my boyfriend’s family restaurant.
I originally wanted to be a fertility doctor, but I didn’t have the money to go to college. We broke up after high school, and then I eventually met and married a man who had just started an insurance company. Together we built a seven-figure business, and yet I felt like any minute I would be “found out,” and everyone would realize I wasn’t the confident and capable woman they thought I was. So I started therapy, and you know, it only ever helped for a short time, if at all. That’s why I was astonished when I finally found out exactly why I had been struggling, and it wasn’t any of the reasons I had been told it was. It changed me forever and compelled me to share my own journey in my book. As you follow my story, you begin to understand how to access your real power and achieve exponential growth.
As an successful entrepreneur please share your view point if you believe that entrepreneurs are born or made?
I believe anyone can be an entrepreneur if their desire to do so is greater than doubts. This is why I invented the Aligned Intelligence® methodology.
To show entrepreneurs (or those who want to be) how they too can create the life and business of their dreams. You first have to understand who you really are, as your true self, so that you stop doubting yourself and learn to listen to your intuition. This will then allow you to make effective decisions from Alignment, which is a requirement to be able to master the business skills.
All of this can be learned!
The key is when you know how to be your best version of the person you are meant to be, then the essential entrepreneurial qualities — drive, determination, vision, and passion — will come easier.
Nelson Mandela once quoted – ‘I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.’ What has been one fear you have overcome?
For me personally, the moment that stands out the most is when I decided to divorce my now ex-husband. This meant leaving the comfort of already having a seven-figure business and lifestyle to have the courage to go out on my own and start my own business from scratch.
Tell us what the word “empower” means to you?
To empower means to me, when I am in Alignment within myself. Meaning, our greatest power comes from when we know our True Self, and then we operate in Alignment within ourselves. This is what gives us the power to trust ourselves and never allow anyone or anything to derail our progress and momentum.
When we empower ourselves, we know our self-worth. Knowing our self-worth allows us to be free of the fear of rejection, judgment, and failure. When we feel empowered, we live unapologetically, and we then let go of always needing to know “how” things will work out before we even start. When we empower ourselves, we recognize that we have a purpose and are willing to take action to live to our full potential. We are then living our greatest power.
What has been one of the biggest business ideas you have had and how did you have the courage to implement it?
My Aligned Intelligence® Method has been my most significant business idea, it is unique in that it allows my clients to consistently and predictably coach themselves. This means at any time they can rise above any obstacle. For me, courage has more to do with one’s willingness to go into the “unknown.” The truth is (which makes me laugh every time) anything new is only ever accomplished by unqualified people. Think about that: in order for it to be new for you, you are not going to be accomplished at it- First!
So all the experts that you see were once unqualified, just like myself. By being highly committed and highly intentional, we became experts. Because you can only be qualified after you’ve accomplished or done the work.
What inspired me to follow through was my sincere purpose of wanting to share what I uncovered so it could make a real impact in the world.
Running your own business can be scary. Success requires moments of courage to push through to the next level, please tell us one of the moments you have had to push through to take your business to the next level?
Deciding to write my book, Meant For More, was a moment I needed courage to push through to the next level, because I knew I had to be completely authentic and share myself with the world. Whenever moments of doubt and combat-limiting thoughts popped up, I used my Aligned Intelligence® coaching methodology to power through. In the end, I knew that for every reason I had to be confident, there would always be another 10 reasons why I should stop. My vision in my mission has always been my source of inspiration which has driven me to persevere. As long as I hold it, like my own internal GPS, I always find a way to align my actions with my purpose. The key is when you know how to be your best version of the person you are meant to be, then the essential entrepreneurial qualities — drive, determination, vision, and passion — will come easier.
Tell us what attributes you feel make a good leader in business today?
Attributes that create impactful leaders are Openness, Honesty, and Authenticity. Respect is always a stronger motivator than fear and builds trust and integrity. Lead with A Compelling Vision and a passion for your purpose. Knowing Like Theodore Roosevelt said, ” Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Our company has 10 fundamental values that I lead by:
1. All in — no middle ground
2. Integrity — say what you mean and mean what you say. Honor your word.
3. Have a “we,” not a “me” attitude
4. Alignment first — then action. Always favor aligned action.
5. Care more — when in doubt, care MORE
6. Always look to be of service and earn people’s trust.
7. Progress over perfection
8. Results over reasons
9. Competence over credentials
10. Always lead with openness, honesty, and authenticity.
What is your favourite quote about empowerment?
“So please ask yourself: What would I do if I weren’t afraid? And then go do it.” – Sheryl Sandberg, American billionaire and philanthropist.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
To achieve success and fulfillment, you first want to start by uncovering your True Self. Then from your True Self, you want to become clear on the lifestyle you want to live and what that specifically takes to live that lifestyle. Then you want to start by solving ONE problem for ONE particular type of person. All businesses only exist to solve a problem for a specific kind of person.
Value progress over perfection because before something becomes Brilliant, it has to be started and improved upon.
Reward yourself for consistent effort, do not wait to praise yourself only once you have achieved a result.
Embrace Failure! Your responsibility as part of your journey is to fail fast, fail often, fail forward. The quicker you embrace failure and Not get caught in the Trap of it, the faster you will progress.
Know the Difference between Failure vs. Mistake. A Mistake is when you incorrectly do something specifically how you were supposed to do it.
A Failure is trying to do something you have never done before and not achieving what you wanted. Failures are what create Clarity! Clarity creates new decisions, new decisions create new behaviors, new behaviors are what will create new experiences, and new consistent experiences are what create new results.
Lastly, The Truth is, Success is not a definitive or specific place, so make it a game and enjoy the journey!
What would be one (1) question you would you ask the person who most inspires you? Also share with us about this person and why they inspire you?
What do you need help with the most?
The reason is most successful people never get asked this question, and I genuinely care to support them or connect them with a person I know who can.
