Since 2002, and with over 38,000 brain untraining hours, Rik has been helping average people to get beyond average by untraining their brain. At the risk of sounding a tad geeky. I’m passionate about solving people’s problems and understanding how our brain really works. I started at age 7, graduating from the children’s section of our local library to the psychology section. I really love untraining people’s brains.
As an successful entrepreneur please share your view point if you believe that entrepreneurs are born or made?
I believe that we can only do what is within our grasp. That’s why it’s important to have people around you who s-t-r-e-t-c-h you and take you beyond your limits. I have a mentor for almost everything I care about.
Nelson Mandela once quoted – ‘I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.’
What has been one fear you have overcome?
I’m not interested in removing just one fear but every fear in my neurology. I wrote a book on the subject called, “ROAR! Courage – From Fear to Fearless.”
In the opening to that book, I wrote what I was scared of in the early part of my life – EVERYTHING!!!!
Tell us what the word “empower” means to you?
Jumping up off your seat at a seminar because someone tells you to, isn’t empowerment.
Empowerment is a psychology and a physiology that tells you that anything is possible. You take action without hesitation or fear.
What has been one of the biggest business ideas you have had and how did you have the courage to implement it?
I created a business idea that was projected to earn $42 million debit in our first year. We travelled to Indonesia to discover that we had underestimated the idea when it grew to $998 million.
Running your own business can be scary. Success requires moments of courage to push through to the next level, please tell us one of the moments you have had to push through to take your business to the next level?
In the early days I was terribly scared of getting up on stage. Another fear I had to overcome. But when I finally followed one of my mentor’s advice and discovered that I could earn a year’s income in one talk, my fear became a poor cousin to my passion to speak.
Tell us what attributes you feel make a good leader in business today?
Honesty. Honesty. Honesty and Responsibility.
We are thankfully seeing the end of the corrupt, dictator-style of Plutonian leadership that has espoused the “my way or the highway” philosophy for too long.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
All the best ideas start with a passionate heart, a determined mind and a courageous gut.
