Susan Bennett Fisher and her husband, Martin Fisher, are pioneers in the study and research of the 9 Natural Numbers. With over thirty years of combined research and experience, their work has led to many new discoveries. They offer a deeper understanding of the importance, power, and impact of knowing your Natural Number personally, in their relationships, and as a parent.
I am Susan Bennett Fisher, the CEO and Co-Founder of Body of 9. Body of 9 is a company dedicated to introducing and teaching about a body-based assessment that, through your posture, body type, and how you physically express yourself, identifies what is called your Natural Number. Since 2012, my husband and Co-Founder Martin Fisher and I have identified the Natural Number of over 8000 people from around the world. We share the understanding of how the Body of 9 shows up in many aspects of the human experience.
Having your Natural Number Identified gives you an experience of your innate self, taking your understanding of who you are to a whole new level – for me it was a most profound realization and acknowledgement. Through the course of my work with the Body of 9 system, I have witnessed the transformation that takes place within people once they have learned their Natural Numbers. Within six months of finding out their Natural Number, people report being happier, more fulfilled, and on a path to their greater purpose. This was my experience. The more I explore this aspect of myself and the more I learn about the other eight Natural Numbers, the more transformative this work becomes. The knowledge accelerates any healing modality, providing a context for any system by understanding the Natural Number origins and how it applies to you.
Martin and I have dedicated our life to sharing this information with as wide an audience as possible.
Oprah once quoted ‘Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher’. How important is it to you to surround yourself with the right people?
This is absolutely critical, and for us at Body of 9, that means building teams consciously to include all nine Natural Numbers, or to combine teams in such a way so that the Natural Number abilities, skills and gifts are in alignment with the desired outcome. It is extraordinarily powerful in creating and developing effective work teams. Each of the nine Natural Numbers contributes one ninth of the transformative process. It turns out we can’t truly do our jobs outside of a conscious community of collaborators. Aligning people’s body-based purpose with their job or life purpose creates happier and more productive people.
Nelson Mandela once quoted – ‘I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.’
What has been one fear you have overcome?
Becoming an author took courage. I have written two books and participated in several multi-author books providing the context of the Body of 9. Putting what you know down on paper as an authority on a subject brings up all kinds of fears. Working through this vulnerability on my first book was a big part of growing confidence in myself. By drawing on the importance of understanding and speaking about the Body of 9, knowing deep in my bones that it will make a difference for people to know about, keeps me motivated and moving through any fears that might slow or stop me.
Tell us what the word “empowerment” means to you?
Empowerment means that you know yourself at the level of your nature, you understand the innate functions that come with your Natural Number, and can use them consciously. When you know this, you are fully empowered to live both in your natural purpose and your bigger personal goals and purpose. Your body is equipped with skills, gifts, and ways of being that are your natural Superpower. When you know them and can access them, you become truly empowered to be who you are meant to be.
What has been one of the biggest business ideas you have had and how did you have the courage to implement it?
I found out my Natural Number in 2002 and realized that I had been introduced to new information that up to that point was only available to very few people. Deep in my being I knew that my purpose was to research, understand and popularize the body of knowledge that is now called Body of 9. Discovering my Natural Number gave me the tools and courage to bring this work forward. There are so many competitive advantages in all aspects of life from knowing your Natural Number. However, it involves introducing new information that is not necessarily aligned with existing information. This is extraordinarily challenging.
The first thing we did was develop a body of research that could hold up to scrutiny. Then we distilled it into a comprehensible system. Next we began to build an organization to create the platform on which we would introduce this information. Now we are in execution mode, partnering with other early adopters, to get this information out into the world on a large enough scale so that we can start to have a bigger conversation, more research, and more impact.
Running your own business can be scary. Success requires moments of courage to push through to the next level, please tell us one of the moments you have had to push through to take your business to the next level?
Prior to the pandemic, our work was done hand-to-hand in person. With the shutdown and hibernation of people, we had to develop a way to identify a person’s Natural Number online. It wasn’t my intention to do this, but people just kept asking to be identified, and I realized that my skills had developed to such a point that I could confidently identify a person’s natural Number over Zoom. This opened up the world to us. Rather than having to work in our small town of Bozeman, Montana, or travel to larger venues, we now can work with anyone, anywhere. That completely shifted our business model and we spent the bulk of the pandemic redesigning our business as a result.
Tell us what attributes you feel make a good leader in business today?
I think being conscious of your own strengths, skills and abilities, understanding that they are different from others and knowing how to draw out and support the skills and abilities of the people around you is what makes you a good leader. Unfortunately most people are not aware that there are nine different kinds of people, and they assume we should all be able to be successful if we just apply ourselves. But it turns out that our bodies are differently equipped and have a particular superpower. When this is understood, for ourselves and for our team, we can best align resources to outcomes. This creates happier and more successful teams. Knowing this makes you a better leader.
What is your favourite quote about empowerment?
Since I don’t have one on top of mind, I will make one up for these purposes:
“Empowerment is knowing who you are at the level of your nature and living in alignment from this place. When we can fully embody all of the Natural Numbers, we can become a complete and cosmic human fully empowered to impact the world in alignment with our greatest purpose.”

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Care deeply about what you are building. Choose a business in alignment with who you are. Use your strengths for your part and then build a team that is aligned and whole and complete to be sure you can handle anything that comes at you. Together we are more than when we are separate. Find your people, ask for help, build something that matters to you and your customers and/or clients.
What would be one (1) question you would you ask the person who most inspires you? Also share with us about this person and why they inspire you?
Honestly, my husband is the person who most inspires me. He is always caring for me, always creating a space where I can be my best. He helps me see myself as the leader for our work that I was born to be. He holds me accountable and helps me grow and learn. I am fortunate in that I am able to ask him questions whenever I want, and together we craft answers to the mysteries we encounter. It is the most powerful collaborative and supportive relationship I have ever had.
