Thank you for joining us here at The Corporate Escapists. Please introduce yourself to our reader. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion.
After years as a lawyer, I started my business as a Mediator and Brain-Based Coach. I was driven by a passion to empower others. During Covid, I wrote a book series for children called “Mini & Milo”. Inside each story, I’ve ‘hidden’ a key life skill to make learning fun!
Oprah once quoted ‘You’ve got to follow your passion – You’ve got to figure out what it is you love – who you really are. And have the courage to do that. I believe that the only courage anybody ever needs is the courage to follow your own dreams.” Please share, how you had the courage to follow your own dreams.
I began my dream as an author by committing to just 10 minutes of writing every single day, with no excuses. Some days, those 10 minutes turned into hours, while others, all I could manage was 10 minutes. It is small yet consistent, courageous steps that lead to big results.
Tell us what the word “Entrepreneur” means to you?
In one word … Freedom.
I love the personal and professional freedom that comes with running my own business as I can carve my own path. I have the flexibility to change the direction of my business with creative ideas that follow my passion (like writing children’s books!) and help real people with real problems.
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned from being an entrepreneur?
There have been so many difficult moments and rollercoasters! The biggest lesson I have learnt is to trust my own decisions and back myself. In the beginning, I felt lost and constantly sought other people’s opinions. Eventually I realised that other people’s opinions are just that – opinions, not facts.
What inspired you to start your own business, and how did you go about identifying a need in the market that your business could address?
My inspiration for the “Mini & Milo” book series stemmed from my concerns as a mother about the increasing stress affecting children. There was a need for a children’s book series that didn’t come across as ‘preachy’ but still addressed the crucial life skills necessary for navigating our unpredictable world.
What is your favourite quote about “following your dreams”?
“If you always do what you’ve always done you will always get what you’ve always had.”
This is a powerful reminder that achieving our dreams requires us to step out of our comfort zone and take action. Waiting for the ‘perfect time’ or until we feel completely ‘ready’ can lead to disappointment when we realise that nothing has changed.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Be mindful of that teeny-tiny voice inside your head that questions your abilities and tells you that you’re not good enough! You will make mistakes and things won’t be perfect, but have faith in your ability to adapt, face challenges and overcome setbacks. Small, consistent steps leads to big results!
