With a background in talent and HR, I’ve always been keen on finding better ways to connect and grow teams. This passion led me to co-found an HR tech startup called GoFIGR, aimed at helping companies to find, inspire, grow and retain their top talent. Before this, I worked on innovative HR projects, always focusing on the people at the core. I’m a strong believer that by using tech thoughtfully, we can make workplaces happier, more efficient, and more connected.
For me it was a combination of being pushed away from a job I no longer loved, pulled towards the opportunity of starting my own business by joining an accelerator and a little bit of good timing. My view was better to regret what I did that regret not being brave enough to try.
That it’s a team sport – my co-founder and I have extremely different skill-sets and without both of our skills and a network of incredibly supportive and talented team members, investors and advisors, there would be no business.
GoFIGR was born out of 20 years of seeing companies do the same old thing and achieve the same outcome. In my final role before taking the leap into startup life, I’d worked with some colleagues to calculate the economic impact of having a constant revolving door or talent. I felt passionately that there was a way for both companies and employees to both achieve their goals (and let’s face it, who out there DOESN’T want to be satisfied at work?) and that’s exactly what we’ve gone on to build.
Be careful what you wish for!
First up, validate you’re solving a problem that people will pay for (rather than trying to search for a problem to fit your solution into), research the pain points and opportunities faced by your target market, speak to as many people as you can that have gone before you and be prepared to learn more than you ever have done.
