Born and raised in Brisbane Qld but living much of my adult life in regional Queensland I have spent most of my career working in customer service based roles. My passion for delivering exceptional customer service and my many years of honing my admin skills naturally led me to starting my own Virtual Assistant business to ease the burden and allow small business to delegate tasks to allow them to focus on money making.
For quite a few years prior to starting my business I had been feeling like something was missing and I wanted control of my own work life destiny. After experiencing corporate burn out I undertook business and personal development coaching and with that support network I took the leap to start my own business.
Witnessing other women start their own business journeys that grew into successful 6 figure businesses along with an amazing support network gave me the courage to make the leap to starting my own business. Even when I was scared I had a fantastic array of people cheering me on.
Entrepreneur means to me someone who takes their ideas and has the courage and drive to see them brought to life. They often take on significant financial and personal risks to do so but they push through the hard and easy times. They have clear vision, are resourceful and have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
My biggest lesson has been to not let imposter syndrome take over your ability to grow and prosper. Our biggest critics are ourselves and part of being an entrepreneur is to push past the hard and uncomfortable parts of business. Additionally having good systems in place is fundamental to ensure smooth operations.
After suffering corporate burnout I knew I needed to change my work/life balance. I knew that in the post-COVID-19 epidemic, there was a huge ability to transition to a work-from-home environment. Additionally listening to people talk about how they had no passion for doing the much-needed tasks such as admin as they were not money-making activities for their business combined with my administration background led me to identify a need for small to medium businesses to delegate and outsource.
Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire and be the energy you want to attract.
My advice would be to do your research on your industry and put in place systems and process that will benefit your business. Document everything that you do and allow yourself to draw resources from different sources. Don’t be afraid to delegate where it makes sense. Be inspired by industry colleagues but don’t compare yourself. Run your own race at your own pace.
