Thank you for joining us here at The Corporate Escapists. Please introduce yourself to our reader. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion.
Working in corporate HR roles for the past 20+ years has taught me a lot about mental health within the workplace, including my own diagnosis of a mental health condition. With this lived experience and corporate insight, Mental Wealth at Work was born in 2020.
Oprah once quoted ‘You are where you are in your life, based on what you believe. If you’re not looking at the shadows, what is subconsciously telling yourself you’re not good enough, not worthy enough, not smart enough…you’re not enough, you end up acting out of THAT belief system, and not of what you want to be the truest for yourself.””. How important is it to you to have the belief within ones self?
Mental Wealth at Work was born in 2020 whilst working part time in a corporate HR role. I could only grow my business to a certain level whilst still being a ‘good employee’. In July 2022 I took the leap of faith, backed myself, and left my corporate role to work in my business full time.
Tell us what the word “Entrepreneur” means to you?
The Chinese Proverb sums it up for me:
“Fall Down 7 times, stand up 8 times”
How has the life of being an entrepreneur, changed you?
I’m much more of a risk taker and more comfortable asking for exactly what I want.
Share you thoughts on the importance of business owners to be a leader in their own life and ensure they have a work/life balance?
I think that business owners need to understand their purpose, or their ‘why’, beyond financial gain.
To be a good leader is about being vulnerable, asking for help, knowing your worth and taking time to enjoy even the smallest of wins.
What is your favourite quote about “following your dreams”?
A dream without a plan is just a wish.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Understand your “why”. This will act as a guiding light when times are tough, as well as when times are great.
