Thank you for joining us here at The Corporate Escapists. Please introduce yourself to our reader. They love to know about you, your passion, and how you came to find and follow your passion.
My passion for personal development started from when I remember, the yearning to know why we are here in the world! Do I have that answer now? Yes and no – I realised you live the question, so in fact it’s about being with the not knowing and keeping curious and open.
Oprah once quoted ‘You are where you are in your life, based on what you believe. If you’re not looking at the shadows, what is subconsciously telling yourself you’re not good enough, not worthy enough, not smart enough…you’re not enough, you end up acting out of THAT belief system, and not of what you want to be the truest for yourself.””. How important is it to you to have the belief within ones self?
Your belief is everything. It’s the narrative that drives your life, sets the scenes, the outcomes – everything. My search to find ways to shift those beliefs and reframe my belief has been since I can remember. Sometimes its so hard because we feel we ARE those beliefs and so who are we if don’t believe that anymore? We can feel lost. If you are feeling lost, that’s good. It means you are rebuilding something new.
Tell us what the word “Entrepreneur” means to you?
Entrepreneur means you are someone who wants to change the world, you are full of ideas, you want to be free to do what you want and how, a natural born leader and will never give up. I think people are born entrepreneurial and for someone who hasn’t ever felt those pangs, find it hard to relate to that life. Entrepreneurs don’t let fear stop them (notice I didn’t say fearless, we have fear, but we are not stopped by it).
How have you been able to incorporate self care in your life?
Yes, it’s been hard, as I’ve been a workaholic, or should I say ‘makeaholic’. Something changed when I moved to the Southern Highlands, I realised I didn’t want to work 24/7, I wanted to sit in nature, enjoy my beautiful two West Highland Terriers and feel life, feel just what it’s like to have no agenda or goal, just be.
Share your thoughts on the importance of business owners to be a leader in their own life and ensure they have a work/life balance?
Ensuring someone has work/life balance is impossible. You have to want it, you have to experience the need, you have to know your ‘why’. Work for most entrepreneurs is NOT work, that is why the line of balance is invisible for most. The best we can do is understand the importance of SELF-LOVE – real self-love. When we value our bodies and mind as much as our desire to fulfil a vision, then things shift. When we do the work on ourselves and face the spiritual self, things shift again.
What is your favourite quote about inspiration?
Love Dream Believe. When you love yourself, have a dream and believe in it – anything is possible.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Congratulations, you want to move deeper into discovering who you are. The business is a journey and it’s important to never lose hope, when challenges show up, thank them, they are the universe growing you and your life, that is how you evolve. The journey is the business and keep your eyes out for other doors that you may not see because you are so held tight on the goal. Come back to intentions and let go of goals and then the magic happens.
